“I have already finished reading the book and formulated some changes to our circle time that I think will excite the children. We have been doing a very small circle time but I now see the potential to turn into something better. Our children are 19, 17, 11, 5, 2, and 10 months. The oldest one is away at college and the 17 year old does her work on her own but drops into the room to help and spend time when needed.” ~Kristi

“I finished reading it last night and my brain has been busy ever since! Our circle time is pretty short right now (I have four little ones under 8) but we’ll be finishing up the bulk of our school work within 8 weeks (just in time for the new baby) and I’m excited to use the summer to develop our circle time a little more. Your ebook is full of good advice and resource suggestions. I’m so glad you’ve put it all together in one place. Thank you!!” ~Judy

“The book is fabulous. I just got mine and started skimming – it’s just what I need! I can’t wait to really get into it.” ~Shannon

But What is Circle Time?

After seeing our daily schedule, many have asked me, “What is Circle Time?” And though the concept is not original to me, it is a part of our day we love and would hate to let go. The idea is that the children and I gather in a circle of sorts before we formally begin the school day.

One of the most important things about Circle Time is that it causes us to be faithful in prayer together every morning. It is also a time I can gather the littlest ones in close and communicate to them that I want them there, and even if I am busy with the older ones and school, I want them there.

We have read through several good devotional and instructional books during our Circle Time, usually hitting a chapter or so per day.

We also work on memorization. Some of what we’ve committed to memory over the years includes:

Really, you could have your children memorize anything you want them to.

I often use Circle Time to read books with a spiritual focus, or a particularly good character theme. I especially like the offerings from Grace and Truth Books online. Owner Dennis Gundersen homeschooled his now-grown children, and he finds some of the neatest books. You won’t see many of these at your local Christian bookstore.

Big Truths for Little Kids is an excellent place to begin. My little ones could understand it while the older ones were given cause to think.

With the Children on Sundays has been a jewel of a find, thanks to Grace and Truth. I was made curious by the website’s description and ordered it with few expectations. WOW! The illustrations the author uses to drive home deep spiritual truths make this book worth its weight in gold.

Take your children through the Bible this year. What a wonderful legacy you would be giving them!

Take a Dangerous Journey with this wonderful version of Pilgrim’s Progress for children.

Written by three siblings, Making Brothers and Sisters Best Friends was an important read for our family. Some days we aren’t the best of friends, and this book was a Biblical reminder of what godly relationships we can have amongst our brothers and sisters.

Practical Happiness changed my attitude about how I was managing our home.  Even mom learns good things from Circle Time!
