Picture Book Preschool
Monday, March 27, 2006 at 2:03PM Sherry at Semicolon has written a delightful little curriculum for preschoolers. Picture Book Preschool is based on classic children's literature, books like Blueberries for Sal, Harry the Dirty Dog, and The Story of Ferdinand. From her site:
"Each week of Picture Book Preschool is built around a theme, and includes a suggested character trait to work on, a Bible verse, and seven picture books to read to your children."
When I received Picture Book Preschool, I was thinking I would simply review it for Preschoolers and Peace as another resource available to homeschoolers. However, after having read through the first few weeks' plans, I realized that not only did I want my preschoolers to go through this neat curriculum, I wanted to utilize my older children to do it with them.
The layout is simple: A character trait is identified (ie., Loyalty), an accompanying Bible verse is assigned for mom and preschooler to learn together, seven books (one for each day) that reinforce the character trait are listed, and an activity idea is given in case you want to dig in a little deeper.
What I like about Picture Book Preschool is that it is simple. Uncluttered. Un-overwhelming. And at this stage when homeschooling older children and preschoolers can be overwhelming, any curriculum that simplifies life while nurturing the child is worthwhile.
