Conference Give-Away!

By Kendra | June 18, 2008

Hey girls (and guys.  Are there guys who read Preschoolers and Peace?  I mean, beside my husband and sons?)-

How would you like to win free entrance to Heart of the Matter Online’s upcoming conference?  In their quest to bring you the absolute best home school resource online, they have listened to your requests and are providing you with a fun-filled online adventure!  And you can attend in your pj’s if you like…

From July 30th through August 3rd, they will be hosting Heart of the Matter Online’s first annual Virtual Homeschool Conference.  Attendees will enjoy motivational speakers, video tutorials, free products, question and answer sessions, and a vendor hall – all ONLINE!  Just log on and listen live during that time or log in at your convenience and download the audios.  If you’re like me, the opportunity to download workshops and listen to them when I can is a huge perk.

The conference will be less like a “seminar” and more like a bunch of close friends in a chat room. Just wait till you see what some of your favorite home school personalities have done to educate and entertain you! At the end you can even join in to chat with them and ask questions if you like.  Hey look!  Linda Hobar, author of The Mystery of History is one of the speakers!  Did I tell you I get to hang out with her all weekend at the Valley Home Educators Conference?  If there were a Mystery of History fan club, I would undoubtedly be the self-proclaimed president.  But I digress.

To ensure your spot in the conference room and to take advantage of the early bird special, simply visit the Heart of the Matter Online Conference site and click the “pay now” button.  $19.95 includes a fabulous $30 package from Currclick: curriculum in a click!  Currlick (formerly HomeschoolEstore) is the largest one-stop shop for electronic lapbooks, affordable curriculum, and homeschooling resourceS (that’s what they tell me, anyway ;D).

You can attend this amazing event for FREE, because I have 5 tickets to give away! Your ticket includes the $30 package from Currclick, too.  Anybody want to win?  Leave a comment telling us what your favorite homeschooling resource is, and you’ll be entered to win one of five tickets to Heart of the Matter’s Online Conference!  Contest ends Monday, June 23rd at midnight.

I’m not good at picking favourites ~ I don’t even use many resources, but I like the ones I like for different reasons. I’m going to say Donna Young’s website because I love paper and forms and files and her worksheets and forms have been so helpful as I try to get our homeschool more organized.

Now I’m off to read more about this conference. I’ll be 36 weeks with #6 then, and putting my feet up and attending seminars by great speakers (I love Mystery of History, too) in the comfort of my own home sounds great!

Favorite homeschool resource….let’s see…I love catalogs! They’re free, have lots of great ideas, can be taken anywhere and then tossed when I’ve gone through them.

Also, you can’t beat veteran homeschoolers as the greatest resource. Whether you’re reading their blogs or chatting with them in person, nothing is better than talking to someone who’s done it.

I’d love to win! I am just beginning homeschooling – my oldest is 5 and we started a little last year. So far my best resource has been those veteran homeschooling moms who have been through it already. They offer solid, experienced advice!

My favorite homeschooling resource is the WTM forum. I can ask whatever questions about homeschooling and the people are so helpful over there!

Hmm… lots of favorites, but I think one of mine would have to be the wooden letter pieces from Handwriting Without Tears. My older two both loved them when they were tiny and my preschooler is loving them now (and the older ones still sneak in and use them with us sometimes, too!).

My fave is Math-U-See. Because I need math I can see and play with. And I am loving the Singapore word problem books.
    (Can you believe I didn’t say Evan-Moor?) :)

My favorite resource is the internet. Is that too broad? But seriously, I love the fact that we live in the day and age that I can find a video showing real Eskimos build a real igloo just because my six year old asked me, “How do you build an igloo, Mommy?”

I have enjoyed Heart of Dakota’s cirricula. The kids love story books and Susan Hunt’s Bible ABC’s. They’ve (the 3 yr. old and 2 yr. old) memorized through letter N! We are just beginning our homeschool journey.

I should have said Preschoolers and Peace is my favourite resource. I had four kids 6 and under when I found your website, and it was such a help in getting started homeschooling.

Does that increase my chances any??

Hi – I really like the books from Heart of Dakota publishers. They are great for keeping us in line and on track for doing school. They help me to know what needs to be done and when. I also like them for how they use the Bible and its verses in what we learn.

Hi! I’m a reader, but I’ve never commented… I guess now is the time : ) I’d love to hear anything that Ms. Hobar has to say! What a great idea this online conference is.

Favorite Resource? That is a tough one since the homeschool world is so full of them!!! I think I might say the Voice of the Martyrs Kids of Courage magazine. It comes out quarterly (FREE) and highlights one country per issue. It is a good introduction to what children face in other places around the world… and that is where we found our favorite snack… Dabo Kolo (from Ethiopia). I guess you couldn’t build a georgraphy curriculum around it, but it is a fun “unit” whenever it comes in the mail.

wow! this would be great! We are a new homeschooling family, our daughter is 3 and her sibling is due in September!

So far our favorite resource is water. We put it in the water table and we can do read aloud for an hour! We put it in the sink and she happily does dishes with us while we work on memorization. We sprinkle it on her flowers and they grow!

Really, does it get much better?

Fun! My oldest is three, so we’ve only done a year of preschool so far, but I bought the 3 & 4-year-old’s preschool package from My Father’s World and have loved it.

Thanks for the great giveaway, Kendra!

    Hello!
    Two of my favorite resources:

    Amazon and SL Curriculum forums

Preschoolers and Peace is also one of the greatest resources. My oldest turns five in July and the baby is seven months old. I feel confident that I can homeschool my children at this stage because I’ve read of other Moms who have done so successfully. The tips and trials of other Moms reminds me that this hard road of parenting and educating is a worthwhile road. Thank you for this opportunity.

Our library is my favorite homeschooling resource. Oh to have an unlimited supply of money to spend at the bookstore and shelves to put it all on………in the face of reality, the library gives us endless possibilities of who, what, where, when and how to explore!

We’re just diving into homeschooling as we have an almost 4 y.o. and almost 2 y.o. so I’d have to say the internet (including your site) and the library are tied for our biggest resource.

  30. Kara B. Says:
    June 18th, 2008 at 6:14 pm

Well, there are so many good things it is hard to choose a favorite resource! My most recent discovery is the My Father’s World curriculum and I’m really having fun looking at their website and information. It is a combination of classical, Charlotte Mason, and unit study methods of homeschooling.

I’m also really interested in Mystery of History and would love to be able to hear the author speak! I’m not sure my children are quite old enough to use it yet, but from what I’ve seen (quick glimpses at the local homeschool convention) it looks really good.

Oh, there are so many WONDERFUL resources out there for homeschooling. I guess I will go with the book that sort of helped me solidify my commitment to homeschooling back when my oldest was a preschooler – it is a great general resource that I pull out every summer as I prepare for the new year – Educating the Wholehearted Child by Clay and Sally Clarkson (or, as my friends and I call it, the purple book).

  35. Megan Volmer Says:
    June 19th, 2008 at 3:42 am

I would have to say my favorite resource is My Father’s World. We just finished second grade with my seven year old and yet my 5 year old and 3 year old have gotten so much out of it as they have listened to so much and done so many fun experiments for science. My five year old even answers grammer questions before said student:( I wanted to plan all myself and hubby told me to get a curriculum. I was a bit sadded at first, but in obedience began to look. When MFW was recommended I knew it would help me organize and the planning was done so I could teach the older people while dealing with my 1 year old “Danger Kitty”. We have used it for first and second grade and can’t wait to start the third grade year learning Geography, Habitats and about many missionaries all over the world.

I also really like Alphaphonics for learning to read as it is so easy to implement and doesn’t have cards and paper and games. One book is all I need!

My favorite curriculum is Susan Wise Bauer’s Story of the World CD’s read by Jim Weiss. I keep all four volumes in the car and whenever we go out, we listen to it. Both kids and adults are getting a fine world history lesson. My oldest often asks to listen to it.

I must say, my favorite Homeschool resource is:

“Educating the Wholehearted Child” by Clay and Sally Clarkson.
I’ve gone back to this book over and over throughout the years. It’s a gem. Also, other homeschooling Moms and Families. Sometimes, just hanging out with others (and seeing that they are crazy too!) is so uplifting and edifying. Not to sound too corny or cliche’ (did I spell that properly?!), but the Sweet Lord and His Word are truly my favorites! My precious hubby is a good one too; he’s always good for a little light hearted and much needed comedy which~ is necessary in any Homeschool!

I also get a lot of inspiration from the moms in my homeschool groups – they are such a blessing and an encouragement. I also appreciate this website- it’s been a goldmine for ideas and also books to read to help with raising my 7 little ones (ages 10-6 months). Hmmm…. My favorite homeschooling resource is our local homeschool store. I feel so blessed to have a local store where I can go and look in person at almost any curriculum/homeschool product out there. I love having that option because sometimes just having the chance to sit and look through something is so much more helpful than only being able to view a couple sample pages or having to wait for a conference.
