Circle Time With the Really Littles

By Kendra | April 5, 2010

I’m sure it’s been a while… but I’m wondering if you had any suggestions for Circle Time for 2 children in the home under 3? Any book suggestions? Any suggestions on teaching them to be loving brothers?
Thanks for all you do!

Krissy Fulton

Yes, we have a couple of favorites that will soon be brought out for our littlest guys (they’re 3 and almost-2). We love all the Susan Hunt Bible study books for kids, but My ABC Bible Verses is a perfect place to start with preschoolers. And my older kids still refer to the pictures in The Children’s Illustrated Bible every once in awhile. The story format is perfect for the younger crowd, and the additional resources in the margins capture the eye of older kids.

As for teaching them to be loving brothers, just communicate to them that they are each other’s best friends. Tell them as they grow that friends tend to come and go throughout life but brothers can walk alongside each other forever. Have them comfort each other when one gets hurt or is sad, and teach them to rejoice at each other’s triumphs. Encourage them to pray together before bed, too. They won’t always feel like loving each other, but that’s the perfect opportunity to show them that love is a choice we make whether we are feeling loving or not!

My children loved both of these books. We have read and still read My ABC Bible Verses to our littles at least once a year. My littles love reading and singing. After that, they are off to play and that is okay.

I like to use Leading Little Ones to God when they get to be about 3 or 4. And we also use Proverbs for Preschoolers by the Boyers. Such cute illustrations drawn by the Boyer kids!!

Hi Kendra! First of all, I LOVE ABC Bible Verses! This is unrelated, but I couldn’t figure out how to just email you or submit a question. But, I saw a post earlier where you said you lived in a smaller house when you had 5 kids (and did school in the garage. I think we are there– we have 6 kids, 1,600 square foot, 3 bedroom house and the garage is our playroom/school room. HELP! I know it is possible to do this, but the STUFF and STUFF management is honestly killing me. I believe I have some great systems in place and am a fairly organized person. I am thankful that many people give us clothing and other items, but keeping up with going through it all is hard. Just keeping track of 8 people’s things is hard. I feel like I am on a never ending quest to simplify. I want quality time with my kids and every time I am “dealing with stuff” it makes me a little mad, like it is robbing me of time with my family. What can I do better? Do you have any nuggets of wisdom?
