Read With Me!
By Kendra | December 26, 2009

Reading through the Bible was the most meaningful thing I did in 2009. So meaningful, in fact, that I plan to read again this year using the Discipleship Journal Bible Reading Plan. Would you like to join me?

Last March or April I started the Outreach plan from http://www.esv.org/biblereadingplans. I liked it, but I think that the extra days off during the month will be helpful. I was actually encouraged by your post from last year to start a Bible reading plan, and I am so glad I did!

Angela-
The extra days are the only way I’ve been able to do it!

Yes. I will use The Daily Bible. I like to read it in chronological order
I finished it once about six years ago and started it twice since. I’m committed this year.

This sounds great! Thanks for sharing. I’m wondering, do you do this in addition to other bible study? I’m in BSF and already do a lot of reading with that, but would like to read through the bible too.

Jen-
I didn’t last year, but I skipped reading what we were already reading in our family time. Next year I plan to do Isaiah with BSF, so I won’t read it twice. Does that make sense?

I’m in! I got a new Bible for Christmas, and I’ve been wondering about a reading plan for 2010. This looks great – thanks for mentioning it!

What great timing! I recently committed myself to reading a chapter of the bible every night before bed and it’s become a habit I enjoy. My husband was thinking of joining me and as a Seminarian he’d really like this plan that gives a bit more structure to the reading.
I can’t read the details of the plan on this computer because I’m on a tiny laptop but I’m assuming the readings are based on Protestant bibles, right? I’m Catholic and if so I’ll have to find some way to work through the additional books independently, but maybe those free days each month can be used for that.
Now i’m excited, thanks for mentioning this link!

Yes, Amanda, the standard Protestant Bible, but since the plan is based on 25 days per month, that would give you 5-6 days each month to fit in the Apocrypha.

Would listening on my (new!! yay!) mp3 count? I find my mind wanders when I read it. And…once I hit Chronicles…I’m all gone. I know…horrible for a Pastor’s wife to not have read the whole Bible in a year. But…I’m keepin’ it real! So…if listening counts…any idea where I’d find it to download for free (or cheap)?
December 27th, 2009 at 6:26 pm
Carmen-
Absolutely counts! I do both, because I like to be able to listen in my car or listen and knit.
I use this one: http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/product?event=AFF&p=1141710&item_no=562781. It’s not free but at $16, it’s a good buy. Anyone else know where to download a free version?

OK, Carmen, my son pointed me in the direction of the iTunes store. There are free podcasts of the Bible! Just check out the podcast section and search for “Bible”.

Hi Kendra-I like the layout of the 5×5x5 plan. I want to do this with you. Count me in. I posted a post on my blog linking to you and the plan, so maybe we’ll get more people on it.
Take care,
Frances

Thanks, Frances!

Woops-I just realized the 5×5x5 plan is only New Testament. I am going to do the one that is the whole Bible. I need it.
Thanks for reminding me to prepare to do this, Kendra!

Well hot diggety dog!! Thanks Kendra! I’m in! : )

I’m in on this too. I’ve “tried” plans other years and have found it overwhelming, but this looks good with the extra days to “catch up”. Thanks!
~Amanda.

Thanks Kendra, those extra days will work perfectly for me to fit in the Apocrypha.
Carmen, you are a genius, I never thought to utilize the bible on mp3, duh, lol! It sounds so peaceful to me to knit and listen at the same time, or maybe I could put it on while my son and I eat lunch so he can benefit.

Amanda…thanks! But, I have failed so many times at actually sticking with a reading program I figured this has GOT to work, right? Ha!
Kendra…do you think your son could find a link for that iTunes free Bible podcast? I’m so computer and internet UN-savvy that it’s horrible! It’s a wonder I figure out how to find you every day! LOL : )

Count me in, Kendra! Thanks so much for this! I pray God blesses you and your family richly in 2010! I’m looking forward to doing the Bible reading plan with four separate places each day. Thanks for encouraging us to get through the Word! I’ve read it through in years past, but that was before I was a busy wife and mommy. So I’m looking forward to seeing how the Lord works in our family and home as I spend more time in His Word.

Carmen,
Answers in Genesis website has a link to an audio Bible that takes you through the Bible in a year. It’s all set up already.
Karen,
This is a great idea. Thanks for inspiring so many of us!!!!
God Bless!!!!
