Amy’s Butter Crescents

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

I know you can buy a can of whack crescents (the kind you whack on the counter ), but these are really, really worth the little bit of effort.  Plus, my hubby’s food allergies keep him from eating anything that has to be whacked on a counter before baking.  This recipe more than [...]

Our Favorite Whole Wheat Rolls

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

This recipe is our standard roll-from-the-bread-machine.  In fact, I rarely make bread in the machine because using it to make dough is so fantastic.

2 Tablespoons butter
1 egg
2 1/2 Tablespoons honey
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon salt
3 teaspoons yeast
Add all ingredients to your machine in the order above. Turn [...]

Zero-Hour Recipes- Caesar Salad with Sliders

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

As long as you’ve got your ground beef defrosted, this dinner can be whipped up in short order.  Buy Caesar dressing the next time it’s on sale and you’ll have yourself a bargain dinner, to boot!  I’ve included a fabulous homemade version in case you’re so inclined.
Caesar Salad with Sliders
Serves 10
2 heads Romaine lettuce, washed, [...]

Food. Yes, Food.

Friday, September 25th, 2009

I’m nursing a nasty cold this weekend so I’ve propped myself on the couch with stacks of food magazines around me. I wanted to get a jump on menu planning for the rest of the year so I don’t have to think about it again. I do plan menus in advance, tweaking as [...]

Cooking as Science

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Recently we talked a bit about finding something you love to do and injecting it into your day. For me, cooking and baking are a particular delight and I have long been wanting to teach my kids how to be capable in the kitchen.
We started several weeks ago with a free lapbook posted on [...]

Individual Apple Crisps

Monday, January 19th, 2009

Sure, I can make a 9×13 pan of apple crisp for dessert, but individual ramekins are so much more fun!
Cut up the apples, sprinkle with cinnamon, top with a mixture of butter and brown sugar.  You can add oats or nuts, but mostly I keep it simple.

1 garlic clove, minced
1 28-oz can crushed tomatoes

How Do I Wear Them Out???

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

The fun question:
What is your favorite summer salad recipe?
Panera’s Fuji Chicken Salad.  Oh wait!  You meant one I make.  Well, since my salad recipe repertoire contains exactly three salads, this isn’t too hard.
Cindy’s Salad
romaine, cut into chiffonade or shred
red onion, thinly sliced
bleu cheese, crumbled
poppyseed dressing
Seems like an odd combo, but if there is one salad [...]

Breakfast Cookies

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

This recipe is a real winner in our home. Served with fresh juice or smoothies, it’s a fantastic boost for breakfast. You can use any kind of nuts and dried fruit you like. We’ve omitted the raisins and even used cashews because that’s what we had on hand.
2 cups sucanat or turbinado
2 [...]
